What matters,
in brief.
Pennywise stores ledger data on the device and has no configured cloud-sync backend. JSON backups and CSV exports are created only when you explicitly choose to export them.
01
What stays local
Accounts, categories, entries, budgets, ledger name, and app preferences are stored in app-private local storage.
02
No cloud sync
The app does not use a configured developer server or automatic cloud ledger.
03
User-controlled exports
JSON backups and CSV files are written through Android's document picker only after you choose an export destination.
04
Security note
Optional PIN and biometric lock protect access to the app; review the release security model before treating the PIN as encryption.

Pennywise: Expense & Budget — Privacy Policy Updated 28 October 2026 Pennywise is a local-first Android money manager made by DMeena Labs. 01. INFORMATION HANDLED Pennywise handles the information you enter into the ledger: account names and opening balances, categories, income, expenses, transfers, transaction notes, budgets, ledger name, currency choice, and app preferences. It also stores optional app-lock settings when you enable them. 02. LOCAL STORAGE Ledger data and preferences are stored in app-private storage on this device. The current build uses Android SharedPreferences for the ledger and settings. The app does not have a configured cloud-sync backend or developer-run ledger server. 03. BACKUPS AND EXPORTS JSON backups and CSV exports are created only when you choose the relevant action in the app. Android's document picker lets you choose where an export is saved or which backup is opened. Exported files leave the app only when you explicitly save, share, or move them. 04. PERMISSIONS AND DEVICE FEATURES The app can use Android's document picker for backup and export flows. Optional biometric login uses the device's biometric prompt when enabled and available. The manifest does not declare a network permission or a cloud account system. 05. SHARING AND ANALYTICS Pennywise does not sell ledger data, use it for advertising, or send it to a configured developer analytics service. The app is designed for local use on the device. 06. SECURITY LIMITATIONS The verification notes record that the optional PIN is currently stored in app-private preferences. A PIN should not be represented as database encryption. Android device backup behavior is controlled by the platform and should be reviewed for a release that requires stronger backup restrictions. 07. YOUR CHOICES You can edit or delete records, clear app data, remove exported files, and disable the optional lock settings. Keep exported backups and your Android device protected.
